Green Woodpeckers

It has been noted that a lot of people have been using Ant Killer on the allotments. We would like to caution against its use because the Green Woodpecker eats the larvae and pupae of the ants (which is why the woodpecker is seen so often on the paths). It would be such a shame to see this beautiful bird go the same way as the Hedgehogs and disappear from our allotments because alternative ways of moving ants on are not practised. I had to wait my whole life to see a Green Woodpecker and I had to come from the countryside to Fulham Allotments to do it!

No ants = no Green Woodpeckers! I personally would like to keep seeing the Green Woodpeckers and keep the ants, nasty little red biters though they are!
